Luscious red lipstick can be cruelty free!
I’m a sucker for lipstick. Possibly because I have the biggest pouty lips known to man, and my favourite colour has got to be red. Now last week I challenged the gorgeous Kate from Kate Days a Week to write about two red lipsticks she loves. As a lover of red lipstick herself she rose to the challenge and you can view her post over here.
I learnt very quickly that red lipstick isn’t for everyone. Plus someone told me recently I was too old to wear red lips. Bollocks to that I say you’re NEVER too old! But there are different shades of red that work on different skin tones. I absolutely love a bold red look, especially on a darker skin. I think they look stunning. It’s so important to know your skin tone before investing in a good lipstick. I found this chart on Pinterest which may help! Now I’m medium skinned with olive tones so I get away with murder when it comes to lipsticks!
I totally believe in buying cosmetics that are cruelty free. And there are surprisingly few to chose from, but somehow I’ve ended up with lots of them! Here are two of my current favourites.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Underage Red Lipstick
Now this is probably the priciest lipstick I own or have ever bought. It’s £26 and you can buy it here. Kat Von D started her own line of cosmetics in 2012, and some of the products are completely stunning – including this lipstick. All products are cruelty free and vegan:
As a vegan and animal activist, Kat Von D is committed to creating hyper-performance beauty products that are completely free of animal-derived ingredients, and never tested on animals. That means you can conceal, contour, and create with confidence—knowing your products aren’t harming animals.
Now this was no easy feat, but Kat was up to the challenge. She nixed common cosmetic ingredients such as beeswax and carmine (a red dye made from beetles) and opted for kinder alternatives without ever compromising color. Now beauty junkies and animal lovers can make compassionate choices without sacrificing bold, beautiful pigment and everlasting wear.
Even the packaging is stunning. As for the lipstick it smells good enough to eat, and goes on so smoothly. Unlike cheaper lipsticks you don’t need to use a lipliner with this one. BUT if you do fancy the liner to go with it it’s available here. The tattoo liner trio set is £35 but worth every penny! I’m also the proud owner of the Vampira shade which is a little bit more gothy.
It goes on it stays on and it always passes the snog test. If you have to ask what this is then you haven’t lived 😉
What do you think?

The Body Shop Deep Cherry lip and cheek stain
Now I know I go on and on about The Body Shop range but my God they have some wonderful cosmetics. This isn’t actually a lipstick. It’s a stain that basically colours your skin happy and stays put where it is for a fair few hours after application. It is a bit tricky to apply and it is a really good idea to use lip liner of some sort with it. But it stays put when applied. I would recommend some sort of gloss over the top as it tends to feel a bit dry. Now for £8 you can’t go wrong with this one! Grab it while you can as there’s a ten pounds off when you spend £30 offer with The Body Shop at the moment. You can get there from here.
And last but not least…
I have to give a little shout out to Lush cosmetics and this little bottle of joy. It’s from the Lush cosmetics lip tint range (there are literally hundreds of colours available online!). Again it’s a stain so pretty tricky and takes time to dry etc but when it’s on it stays on and needs a gloss over it.
I couldn’t write this blog without giving it a quick mention! BECAUSE IT’S AMAZING!
